There have been reports of clashes and violence in Osun State , Nigeria , following a Court of Appeal judgment regarding the reinstatement of sacked All Progressives Congress ( APC ) council chairpersons and councillors. Governor Ademola Adeleke, of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), has alleged that APC members are attempting to forcefully take over local government secretariats.
On Monday, skirmishes broke out in several local government areas as PDP and APC members clashed over control of the secretariats. A correspondent for the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that a crisis erupted in Ife East Local Government Secretariat when PDP members resisted attempts by APC members to enter the premises. Police officers present were overwhelmed and fled the scene. A pregnant woman, Zainab, was caught in the crossfire and fainted, only regaining consciousness after being given water. Meanwhile, police and security personnel were deployed to other local government secretariats, including Osogbo and Olorunda, to prevent further violence. The state police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, assured that personnel were being deployed across the state to maintain law and order. The APC, however, insists that the Court of Appeal judgment clearly mandates the reinstatement of the sacked officials and has called on Governor Adeleke to comply with the court order. They criticized the governor's actions as an attempt to evade the judgment.
