Nigerian Senator Ned Nwoko is expected to leave the PDP and join the ruling APC, giving the party control of all three senatorial seats in Delta State. The move is attributed to strained relationships with the incumbent and former governors, who are allegedly prioritizing their own interests over Nwoko's constituency.
Senator Ned Nwoko , representing Delta North in the Nigerian Senate, is poised to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) to the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC ). This anticipated move will solidify the APC 's dominance in Delta State , as it already holds the senatorial seats for Delta Central and Delta South, both won in the 2023 elections. Nwoko 's decision is reportedly fueled by strained relations with both the current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa .
Allegations of marginalization and the prioritization of Okowa's interests over Nwoko's constituency are cited as key factors. Adding further complexity to the situation, Okowa, who ran alongside Atiku Abubakar for president in the 2023 elections, is rumored to be eyeing Nwoko's Delta North senatorial seat in the 2027 election. Okowa's political ambitions are further complicated by his recent arrest in November 2024 for alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion in derivation funds between 2015 and 2023. Although released, his travel documents remain seized.
