The NNPP in Osun State has expressed concern over alleged attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to disrupt the upcoming local government elections. The party urged the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to remain steadfast and ensure a free and fair electoral process.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP ) in Osun State has cautioned the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission ( OSSIEC ) against succumbing to alleged plots by the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) to disrupt the upcoming local government elections scheduled for next month. The NNPP raised concerns about a campaign of misinformation and alleged attempts to discredit OSSIEC chairperson Hashim Abioye , who the APC claims is ineligible to conduct the election due to pending court litigations.
The party pointed out that all political parties, including the APC, had unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Abioye and the OSSIEC several months ago. They emphasized that the electoral body had already invested significant state resources in preparing for the election since January and urged OSSIEC to remain committed and ensure a free and fair process. The NNPP expressed its disappointment with the APC's sudden objections, stating that any attempt to stop the election would be detrimental to democracy and the progress of local governance in Osun State. They argued that the party's claims of Abioye's ineligibility were baseless and aimed at jeopardizing the democratic process. The NNPP called on OSSIEC to remain steadfast in its commitment to conducting the election and urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure a peaceful and successful electoral exercise. The party stressed the importance of local government autonomy and expressed concern that the APC's actions could undermine efforts to empower local communities. They highlighted the challenges faced by grassroots residents in Osun State due to the perceived hijacking of local administration by the state governor and expressed hope that the local government elections would provide a platform for more responsive and accountable governance at the local level
