Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has signed into law a bill passed by the State House of Assembly to set up the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation to ensure portable water to the people.
Making this known in Minna, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasara Dan- Malam said the law has already taken effect from the 25th of March, 2020. He explained that the essence of the water and sewage corporation law is to achieve a developed water system in the State. “The establishment of an independent, autonomous and commercially viable utility that ensures efficient and sustainable delivery of safe, clean drinking water to the people, ” the commissioner added.
The establishment of the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation is the climax of the United States Agency for International Development sponsored Effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene program that seeks to give access to potable water to one hundred and fifty thousand households in six states in Nigeria including Niger.
