The Oluyole Progressive Force (OPF) criticized Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe for donating a Lexus SUV to a party chieftain, calling it a misplaced priority given the constituency's needs. The group, comprising mostly APC members, highlighted neglected infrastructure and economic struggles, advocating for funds to be used to improve the lives of residents rather than luxury gifts.
The Oluyole Progressive Force (OPF) has voiced strong disapproval of the donation of a Lexus RX 300 luxury SUV by Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe , the House of Representatives member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, to Alhaji Razak Akilapa, a prominent figure within her political party. The group has publicly labeled the gesture as a misplaced priority, especially considering the prevailing economic hardship s faced by a significant portion of the constituency's residents.
This condemnation was conveyed in a statement released and made accessible to DAILY POST on Saturday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The statement bore the signatures of Comrade Emmanuel Shodimu, the chairman of OPF, and Esther Tolase, the secretary. Information gathered by DAILY POST indicated that the lawmaker presented the Lexus SUV to Alhaji Razak Akilapa, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the federal constituency, during his 85th birthday celebration. However, OPF vehemently criticized the lawmaker's action, characterizing it as an inappropriate use of resources given the current financial struggles of the majority of her constituents. The group emphasized that the substantial funds utilized to acquire the vehicle could have been deployed to significantly improve the livelihoods of numerous constituents.\OPF's statement further elaborated on their discontent, stating, 'This is absurd. It is unreasonable. If they are making so much money in the House of Representatives, wisdom dictates that it should be spent wisely to better the lives of constituents rather than on unproductive luxury cars.' They went on to suggest the potential positive impact of reallocating the funds, highlighting that 'This humongous sum, if used wisely, could have transformed the lives of 60 persons in the federal constituency for life. It would have impacted families and uplifted economic activities in the local government area. But our own honourable chose to gift a 15m naira unproductive car to an 85-year-old man. Sad!' The statement underscored the missed opportunity to address pressing community needs and the perceived detachment from the realities faced by the constituents. The sentiment expressed reflects a broader concern about the responsible allocation of public funds and the importance of prioritizing the well-being of the population over personal or political indulgences. The group clearly believes that the donation reflects a misunderstanding of the needs and expectations of the people they represent and a misuse of public office.\Moreover, the Oluyole Progressive Force, whose members predominantly consist of registered APC members, expressed their disappointment that the House of Representatives member opted to prioritize the gratification of a single individual while numerous residents and traders in the area had been enduring significant hardships. The statement specifically mentioned the residents and traders along the road leading to Olomi Primary School, a location utilized for the weekly APC meetings. These individuals have voiced persistent complaints regarding the deteriorated state of the road for over a decade. The statement highlighted the deplorable condition of the road, emphasizing its current impassability and the negative impact on the daily lives of those who live and work in the area. The group's criticism of the donation is thus linked to a broader critique of the lawmaker's priorities, pointing to a perceived neglect of essential infrastructure and the overall welfare of the constituency. The fact that the OPF members are largely APC members further underscores the severity of the discontent, indicating that the criticism stems from within the same political party. This internal criticism highlights the internal divisions on the matter of the donation, the lawmaker's priorities and the impact of these priorities on the people in the area
