Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Thursday morning
1. Kidnappers on Wednesday night abducted the Magajin Garin Daura, Musa Umar, in his Daura residence. According to report, Mr Umar, a retired customs comptroller, was abducted after observing Magrib prayer. The traditional ruler is the father of Fatima Musa, wife of Colonel Mohammed Abubakar, the Aide de Camp, ADC, to President Muhammadu Buhari.
3. Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of setting a bad precedence by withholding his certificate of return after he had been declared winner of the Imo west senatorial election. In a petition he filed at the commission’s head office, on Wednesday, Okorocha advised Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, not to reduce the commission to willing tool in the hands of political manipulators.
5. The Organised labour has again cautioned the Federal Government on the nation’s rising debt profile, “resulting from government’s unsaturated appetite for borrowing and foreign loans.’’ The President of the United Labour Congress , Mr Joe Ajaero, gave the warning on Wednesday when he led hundreds of workers to mark May Day at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
7. Following growing insecurity in Kaduna State, Mohammed Adamu, Inspector General of Police, has ordered the immediate removal of Ahmed Abdulrahman as Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State. This was disclosed in a statement signed by Frank Mba, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Force Public Relations Officer on Wednesday. Abdulrahman has with immediate effect, been posted to the Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He will be replaced by Aji Ali Janga.
