The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Ogun State command reports a significant crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse in 2024, with 675 arrests and 221 convictions. The command seized 9.7 tonnes of hard drugs and 537.81 litres of liquid-based substances. The State Commander, Tijjani Rabe, attributes the rise in drug-related activities to increased influx and consumption during the ember months. To combat this, the command launched 'Operation Close The Gate' which intercepted 1.3 tonnes of cannabis sativa. In addition to enforcement, NDLEA Ogun State focused on public awareness campaigns, reaching 27,648 individuals through sensitization programs.

Along with the arrest, the command disclosed that 537.81 litres of liquid-based substances of abuse and 9.7 tonnes of various hard drugs were seized. The State Commander, Tijjani Rabe, stated this in an interview with DAILY POST on Tuesday, at the commands headquartres, Abeokuta, the Ogun State state capital.
He revealed that from January to December 2024, the command reached an estimated number of 27,648 audience through sensitisation and awareness campaigns which were conducted in 128 places throughout the state, including government offices, schools, faith-based organizations, among others. The commander said, “Within the year 2024, we’ve been able to arrest 675 suspects and seized 9.7 tons of variety of hard drugs. 'We’ve also succeeded in seizing 537.
