A team of local hunters in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State successfully rescued five kidnap victims and foiled a kidnapping attempt in Tata Bunu community. The hunters, working in conjunction with vigilant group members, engaged the suspected bandits in a firefight. Their courageous response resulted in the successful thwarting of the kidnapping and the rescue of all five victims.
During the intense confrontation, one of the bandits was killed, while others managed to escape with gunshot wounds. The Chief Press Secretary to the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Chairman, Omofa John, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday. He highlighted that the operation took place in the early hours of Sunday in Tata Bunu community. Upon receiving a security report, the local hunters and vigilante group swiftly mobilized their team to the scene. The statement further emphasized that the success of the operation was largely due to the recent provision of essential security materials and logistics by the local government chairman. This support, according to the statement, empowered the hunters to confront the kidnappers effectively and ensure the safe return of all the victims. The statement also mentioned that one of the local hunters sustained an injury during the operation and is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital. The Local Government Chairman urged all villages within Kabba/Bunu LGA, particularly those in Bunu district, to actively participate in self-defense initiatives. He stressed that security matters can no longer be taken lightly. The Chairman pledged his continued support to the local hunters' team, assuring them of his commitment to providing additional resources and logistics for future operations
