Abdulsalam AbdullahUsman Ododo, governor of Kogi, has highlighted the urgent need to enhance safety measures on the country’s waterways, particularly along the Dambo-Ebuchi section of the River Niger . A recent boat accident in this area resulted in the death of several passengers, many of whom were women, petty traders, and artisans. The governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss and assured support for the injured victims and their families.
He called on relevant authorities to ensure safety measures are in place to minimize risks associated with water transportation. The governor also commended the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for their search and rescue efforts and emphasized the importance of collaborative measures to prevent waterway accidents and enhance emergency response
