The Kano State government is pursuing legal action to recover assets allegedly unlawfully removed from the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO) during the tenure of its former managing director, Bala Muhammad. The case centers around allegations of financial misconduct and misappropriation of public funds.

Bala Muhammad , a political ally of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje , is locked in a legal battle to reclaim assets allegedly illicitly removed from the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company ( KASCO ) during Muhammad's tenure as managing director. In October 2023, the state's Public Complaint and Anti- Corruption Commission (PCACC) obtained a court order to seize various properties, including trucks, tractors, and construction equipment, listed in a document seen by PREMIUM TIMES.

The state government filed a nine-count charge against Muhammad and his associates, accusing them of diverting over N4 billion from KASCO's accounts into personal and other accounts. The alleged diversion took place between August 2022 and April 2023.The PCACC alleges that Muhammad conspired with others, including his son, to misappropriate public funds intended for KASCO. The charges accuse Muhammad of transferring millions of Naira into personal accounts and business accounts under false pretenses, such as supplying materials that were never delivered. Muhammad maintains his innocence and challenges the PCACC's authority to investigate corruption cases, arguing that only federal anti-corruption bodies have such power. However, a court ruling on October 18, 2023, affirmed the PCACC's right to investigate, arrest, and prosecute corruption cases within the state. The court stated that the PCACC has the power to receive and investigate any allegations of corrupt practices against individuals and refer the matter to the state attorney general for appropriate action, citing section 15 (1) (a) and (b) of the state Anti-Corruption Enabling law. The case continues to unfold, highlighting the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria
