Kano State Assembly approves Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's nominees for the Zakat and Hisbah Commission and the Sharia Commission, but raises concerns over representation of local governments.

The Kano State House of Assembly approved a report from its religious committee regarding the names of individuals nominated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for positions in the Zakat and Hisbah Commission and the Sharia Commission of the state. This approval came after a speech by Representative Abdullahi Yahaya, representing Gezawa Local Government, who highlighted that the law establishing these two commissions specifies that commissioners should be drawn from all corners of the state.

Yahaya pointed out that, upon examining the names submitted by the governor, only one local government had representatives for all four positions, while another had nine, and yet another had ten, deviating from the clear stipulations of the law. In further explanation, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mohd Bello Butu-Butu, stated that selecting commissioners from all areas of the state would ensure political fairness and called on the legal team of the assembly to thoroughly understand each case before presenting it to the House. Lawan Hussaini Dala, the Head of the Assembly's administration, added that the assembly's approval was based solely on the committee's report and not an endorsement of the nominated individuals. He urged Governor Abba to ensure the accuracy of the nominees' information, noting that four individuals appointed by the governor had not responded to the assembly's invitation
