Halima Usman, the association’s public relations officer , made the appeal on Wednesday during a public hearing on the 2025 appropriation bill at the state house of assembly.Usman urged the government to ensure that all new constructions, including lecture theatres, are designed with accessibility in mind for students with disabilities.
She said the proposed 2025 budget did not capture specific projects that would provide solutions to institutional problems which discriminate and prevent students with disabilities in certain activities within the schools’ premises. In addition, Usman called for investments in green spaces on campuses, suggesting the planting of trees to shield students from excessive sun exposure., the governor of Kaduna state, had earlier presented the N790 billion 2025 budget to the state assembly.
The budget, which includes provisions for various sectors, has passed its second reading and is currently under review by the house committee on appropriations and implementation.
