The book is a work of extraordinary depth and courage-a scholarly, yet accessible exploration of how centuries of colonial rule did not merely conquer African land, but systematically assaulted the African sense of beauty, identity and psychological self-worth. Drawing on the rich traditions of African philosophy, psychodynamic theory, and de-colonial scholarship, this book traces the enduring wounds inflicted on the African psyche-from the erasure of indigenous aesthetics to the internalisation of European beauty standards and the troubling legacy of skin lightening.
