This article explores the latest discoveries and missions in the search for extraterrestrial life, focusing on NASA's Europa Clipper mission, the potential for life on Jupiter's moon Europa, and the ongoing exploration of Mars. It also delves into the reclassification of Pluto and the search for a ninth planet in our solar system.
Jesus wept three times in the Bible. One was at the death of Lazarus, showing his displeasure with death as a heritage from Adam and Eve's failure. He also wept at humanity's inability to believe and avoid dying in sin. The third time was when he pictured Jerusalem's destruction on judgment day for failing to meet his expectations. Since then, despite humanity's continued misbehavior, Jesus hasn't wept again. His hope lies in scientists' work, revealing the heavens layer by layer.
On October 14, 2024, NASA launched the Europa Clipper mission from Florida. It's heading to Jupiter's moon Europa, which has an ocean. The spacecraft will travel 1.8 billion miles for six years, arriving in 2030. Finding life on Europa would be momentous. Jupiter, known since Galileo's time in 1609, orbits the Milky Way's center with its seven other companions, completing a cycle every 210 million years at 240km/second. This $5.2 billion mission is at the heart of the renewed search for extraterrestrial life. Europa's ocean holds more water than all Earth's oceans combined. Scientists hope to find biological ingredients within, potentially existing for billions of years. While missions to the moon or Mars seek remnants of past life, Europa might harbor current life. Scientists have also discovered lava tubes under our moon, potentially suitable for astronaut habitats. On Mars, seismic data reveals underground water within rocks 7-13 miles below the surface, offering hope for future Martian settlements. NASA's Mars rover has collected over two dozen rock samples in titanium tubes. NASA is working with the European Space Agency to retrieve them by 2039. These pristine rocks could reveal Mars' history and the evolution of life there. However, retrieving them presents technical challenges and concerns about potential contamination. If NASA delays, China may pursue a mission to collect Martian rocks. In 2005, Mike E. Brown led the reclassification of Pluto from planet to dwarf planet due to its inability to dominate its orbital space. Since then, scientists have been searching for a replacement, suspecting a large object at the solar system's edge. This is based on the observed distortion of smaller objects' paths, a phenomenon caused by planetary gravity. Scientists estimate this missing planet to be five to ten times Earth's mass but smaller than Neptune. The James Webb Space Telescope, launched in 2021, is expected to find this elusive 9th planet. In biological studies, a 520-million-year-old worm larva with its brain and guts intact was recently discovered
