No fewer than 50 trucks and other heavy duty vehicles, on Sunday, blocked the Rainbow roundabout on the Bauchi/Gombe Expressway, causing traffic and anguish for over two hours.
The drivers claimed that the state government’s had been imposing levies on them beyond their capacity.
The spokesperson for the drivers, Mustapha Mohammed, accused the state government’s task force of charging them exorbitant rates for alleged illegal parking. He said, “Whenever we park based on what they term wrong and illegal parking, we will be charged over N25,000. “Our members have had enough of this. The government cannot continue to use us to make money for itself. The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abubakar, appealed to the drivers to consider innocent road users in their protest. Abubakar, who was not allowed to address the protesters, called on them to seek amicable means of expressing their grievances for the general good.
