Premiership winning coach Phil Gould says he doesn’t understand why clubs negotiate contracts that allow players to leave before the end of the deal.
However the final year of his Brisbane contract is an option in his favour, meaning he would effectively be free to leave at the end of 2019. “I’ve never ever given the player, under normal circumstances, the option to go for any particular reason, other than the end of his contract, or if the club decides they no longer need him. That’s always the negotiated position.”
