A quarter of Brits have confessed to littering, with half of those surveyed admitting they discard plastic items after just one use, showing a disregard for environmental repercussions, reveals a study.
The research involving 2,000 adults highlighted that while a small number openly litter at the beach, a mere quarter of the respondents recognise the harmful effects their actions have on marine life.
The insights come from a survey led by korev lager, alongside its ongoing partnership with the Marine Conservation Society. Highlighting the severity of the issue, he added, "Data from our beach clean volunteers last year showed that the biggest source of litter on beaches surveyed is from the public, and nine out of the top 10 litter items were made of plastic."
The study also unveiled that 91 per cent of adults are worried about the oceans' future, with 63 per cent particularly concerned over the volume of refuse entering the waters. Almost three in ten expect hurdles in giving up meat, and a quarter feel growing their own produce would be overly difficult. Conversely, 17 per cent acknowledge struggling with reducing plastic usage.
