NRL officials botched a long-standing, little-used rule during Friday night's Sharks vs Storm clash, with Melbourne winger Josh Addo-Carr the victim.
Addo-Carr was returning a Kyle Flanagan kick in the fourth minute when he was tackled just past the 40-metre line, just in from touch. He stayed safely in the field of play while the tackle was completed, but then put his foot on the sideline as he rose to play the ball."I thought that you could put your foot on the line getting up to play the ball," mused dual premiership-winning coach Phil Gould on Nine's coverage.
Cronulla took the ball deep into Melbourne territory and eventually scored the opening try of the match through Sione Katoa; eventually winning 20-18.
