South Sydney could be set to poach Roosters’ superstar Latrell Mitchell in the wake of Greg Inglis’ departure from the game., while there has not yet been an official play for the centre, the Roosters are aware that there are “people in his ear” suggesting Redfern would be the right fit.

The 21-year-old’s proud indigenous heritage and his role as an ambassador for Aboriginal heart health at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney could also play a factor in a potential move to the Bunnies, a club culturally entrenched and situated in Sydney’s indigenous heartland. Mitchell comes off contract at the end of next season, which puts him on the open market on November 1 this year should the Roosters fail to tie him down to a long-term deal beforehand.
With the potential for up to $1.5 million to be freed up in the Rabbitohs’ salary cap, depending on how the NRL rules on Inglis’ retirement, Mitchell could then become a legitimate target for the club.
