A visit to the Sokoto Modern Abattoir in Mahuta Market, Sokoto State, on Monday morning showed that the slaughterhouse has been closed by the authorities following the murder of a butcher, Usman Buda, who was killed on Sunday by extremist Muslims over an alleged blasphemous comment. When SaharaReporters visited the abattoir, its gate was locked, but the area was buzzing, making it difficult for a stranger to believe a soul was lost due to a mob attack over alleged blasphemy at the market in the previous 24 hours.

Sokoto State Government Closes Abattoir Over Killing Of Trader For Allegedly Blaspheming Prophet MuhammedWhen SaharaReporters visited the abattoir, its gate was locked, but the area was buzzing, making it difficult for a stranger to believe a soul was lost due to a mob attack over alleged blasphemy at the market in the previous 24 hours.

A shop owner, who simply identified himself as Haruna, very close to the abattoir’s gate told SaharaReproters that the reason for the closure of the butchery was due to the grievous killing of Usman Buda by residents of the state who felt aggrieved due to Buda’s abusive remarks against the personality of Prophet Muhammad.“There is no market in the abattoir because nobody is allowed to enter, the gate is closed. This is because of the man that was killed yesterday.

He added that within a twinkle of an eye, he realised people started shouting and accusing Buda of insulting Prophet Muhammad , an allegation which he said he would hardly believe the deceased did. The governor mentioned this in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, claiming that the present administration would deal with anybody who was found guilty of insulting Prophet Muhammad.
