The first petrol stations the Weight and Measures department entered was Forte Oil opposite Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Maitama Abuja. It was discovered there that for every litre of fuel bought, Forte Oil shortchanged consumers with a litre.

, builders are also shortchanged by unscrupulous merchants who re-bag cement. Fraudsters are at work, reports FRANCA OCHIGBO

The first petrol stations the Weight and Measures department entered was Forte Oil opposite Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Maitama Abuja. It was discovered there that for every litre of fuel bought, Forte Oil shortchanged consumers with a litre but it is so programmed that customers never know. The department now headed for Airport Road where they found out that Dan Oil was even doing far worse. At Dan Oil, customers were shortchanged with almost two litres of fuel. The Director of the department said this all leads to immediate revocation of the weight and measures license issued to both Forte Oil and Dan Oil pending when they both comply with measuring standards set by the enforcement team. This is all to ensure that customers are not shortchanged in future.

The department then proceeded to Shoprite by Jabi Lake for inspection. They took their time to weigh products like apple, yams, onions, and Irish potatoes, among others. All the measurements taken at the Shoprite were quite accurate and commendable too. Sidi said there is need for inspection to ensure standard of measurement because it is an international standard. In all countries round the world things like this are being done to ensure compliance and that customers are not shortchanged.

The next point of inspection is the Seven Up bottling company in Iduh Industrial Estate Abuja, the department took its time to check production going on. The whole idea is to ensure each bottling line is well scrutinised and confirmed. It is also to rebuild consumers’ confidence in the product. Sidi said with what they have seen there is great improvement from what they used to have. The level of compliance has greatly improved.
