The ceremony was held at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, in the presence of Obafemi Hamzat, the deputy governor, and Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the state assembly.

Sanwo-Olu appreciated the lawmakers for the swift passage of the bill, adding that the law will change the socio-economic value of citizens in the state. The governor said the law will help to resolve long-standing challenges in the energy sector and form a “robust foundation” for economic growth.Biodun Ogunleye, the state commissioner for energy and mineral resources, said the law will provide an additional grid for Lagos state and also put an end to black out in the state.

“There will now be regular power supply. Host community development Trust fund, which will provide opportunities for communities to develop power plants,” he said. The law aims to electrify underserved areas and contribute to the sustainable development of the state by promoting diverse energy sources, including renewable energy.Institutions expected to be created to implement the law include Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Lagos Independent System Operator and Lagos State Electrification Agency.
