The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a Christmas gift of N100,000 for state workers, civil servants, and retirees. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the state Head of Service, George Nweke, on Tuesday evening and circulated to news media. Nweke explained that the Christmas bonus is intended to assist employees and others with their holiday needs and will take effect immediately.

The statement read: 'I wish to inform the general public that His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in the spirit of Christmas, has approved the payment of N100,000 to state government workers and retirees in Rivers State. This is to enable them to celebrate the Christmas season with joy. 'His Excellency approved this gesture on Monday, December 23, 2024, and directed that it be implemented immediately to ensure that workers celebrate Christmas merrilly.' George Nweke added that this is the second time during Governor Fubara's tenure that state government employees have received a N100,000 Christmas bonus, which surpasses the minimum wage across the country. This is also the first time that retirees will receive this kind of support
