The House of Representatives has waded into the controversy over the alleged falsification of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result by Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma.
The decision followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Awaji-Inombek Abiante at the plenary session with the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Benjamin Kalu presiding.
Consequently, the House resolved to constitute an Ad-hoc Committee to probe into the issue and turn in its report within one weekAbiante justified the initiative arguing that it was based on the claim by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board , Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin that Mmesoma manipulated her UTME results to score 249 instead of the 362.
The lawmaker remarked that the matter became intriguing after Mmesoma came out to defend herself, that she actually printed the result from the JAMB verifiable website. The lawmaker acknowledged that uploading or downloading result of examinations or polls electronically, in Nigeria, glitches can occur at any time, hence the need to establish the facts before any blames,
He further stressed the need for the probe since Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB Head of Public Affairs and Protocol alleged that some of the 2023 UTME candidates are parading fake scores in order to get undue advantage over other students.
