The Osun State Police Command, yesterday, warned government officials against using police orderlies attached to them for domestic duties.

A statement by Public Relations Officer of the Command, Yemisi Opalola, on behalf of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, read the riot act to police officers who allow themselves to be used as gatemen, handbag or umbrella carriers for government officials.

Opalola, who urged government officials to employ the services of gateman and other domestic servants and desist from using police orderlies, said any police personnel found wanting would be sanctioned. The statement reads: “The Osun State Police Command is miffed at the way and manner these personalities use police orderlies attached to them for domestic duties. We wish to state emphatically that the policemen attached to them are meant to protect life and property and not to serve as domestic servants.

“The Command, therefore, warns police officers attached to officials to stop carrying out or serving purposes other than protecting their principals from security threats, as such behaviour is highly unethical, unprofessional and would attract appropriate sanctions against such police personnel. “These categories of government officials are enjoined to employ the services of domestic staff/personal assistants to carry out such services.”
