Down champions Portaferry take on Derry kingpins Slaughtneil in the Ulster Club SHC decider at the Box-It Athletic Grounds
The Ulster Club SHC semi-final delivered one of the truly great games of recent times. This afternoon, Slaughtneil return to the scene on that thrilling extra-time win over Cushendall as they try to complete their mission and lift the Four Seasons Cup at the expense of Down champions Portaferry at the Box-It Athletic Grounds.
That might well be music to their ears of Gerard McGrattan as his Portaferry side received a bye to the final and was in the stands to watch the Ulster semi-final last month.However, Portaferry are three-in-a-row Down champions themselves and brought Cushendall to extra-time last season after suffering a 19-point loss to Slaughtneil in their 2022 appearance in Ulster.There's been a huge shock in the Munster SHC final with Sarsfields of Cork beating Ballygunner 3-20 to 2-19 in Thurles.
The former Antrim skipper scored his third goal with the final act of normal time to force extra-time, but Slaughtneil finished well on top to secure a five-point victory to set up a final clash with Portaferry. However, Jack Cassidy was having a stormer at midfield and brought his tally to 0-5, all from play while a mix-up in the Cushendall defence led to a goal for Slaughtneil.
