A police raid on a suspected drug dealing area in Calabar, Cross River State, led to violence and the death of one person. The incident started when police officers responded to intelligence reports and raided a street in the Bogobiri area.
Many vehicles have been damaged and one person shot dead, Monday afternoon at Cameron Street, in Bogobiri area of Calabar , Cross River State. The incident happened when police raided a discreet area of the street where hard drugs are reportedly sold. According to witnesses, the police swooped on the area following intelligence but upon sighting the security operatives the criminals opened fire and one man was hit.
The victim reportedly died on the way to the hospital and his identity could not be ascertained as of press time. Following the death, the hoodlums went on a rampage, the witness said. Our source who gave his name Ibrahim Attahiru, said he lives in Bogobiri, a densely populated Hausa/Fulani community and that many vehicles were damaged as the miscreants reacted against the police. 'As I speak to you, many people living in Bogobiri are scared and many are on the run because of the rampage ', he said.
