An officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Ajele Oloyede, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a ceramics company in Igbesa, Ogun State. The incident is currently under investigation.
The family of Ajele Oloyede, a member of the Nigeria Police Force , was thrown into grief on Thursday following his death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Igbesa area of Ogun State . While the exact nature of the incident remains unclear, whether intentional or accidental, the police command has initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Oloyede's death.
\The incident occurred at a ceramics company in Igbesa, where Oloyede was assigned as part of the company's security detail. According to Omolola Odutola, the command's spokesperson, the incident was discovered by Tolorunloju Stephen, an officer from the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, who was on special duty at the company. Stephen had returned from Ikeja around 1:20 pm and, upon entering the security office, found Inspector Oloyede with his head resting on a table. When Stephen inquired about Oloyede's well-being, the officer reportedly assured him that he was fine, and the two exchanged greetings. \Stephen then proceeded to place his bag and pistol on the table before stepping into the restroom. Upon rushing back, Odutola stated that Stephen discovered Inspector Oloyede lying in a pool of blood. With the help of private security personnel, the wounded officer was immediately transported to the Ota General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. The police recovered Oloyede's pistol from the scene, and his body was deposited at the Ota General Hospital for autopsy. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation. This incident echoes a similar case in 2018, when a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, David Agholor, was found dead in his residence on Sheraton Estate, Olaogun, in Ijoko, after allegedly taking his own life. The former officer, who previously led the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad under the Enugu State Police Command, reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head
