Aussie children as young as six-months-old will soon become eligible for the Pfizer COVID vaccine, after the Therapeutic Goods Administration gave the jab the tick of approval for babies and toddlers.

It is the second vaccine to be provisionally authorised for Aussie children in that age group, after the paediatric dose of Moderna was given the green light in July.

“As seen with older age groups, it is expected that vaccines for younger children will provide protection from the most severe COVID-19 outcomes, such as hospitalisation and death. The study demonstrated that the immune response to the vaccine was similar to that seen in children aged five to 12 years.
