Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi criticizes the Federal Government's decision to exclude the North Central region from 2025 budget allocations, calling it discriminatory and harmful to the region's development.

The Labour Party , LP, presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi , has criticized the Federal Government's decision to exclude the North Central region from its 2025 fiscal budgetary allocations to regional commissions. Expressing his dissatisfaction on his X handle, Obi stated that the action is discriminatory and has significant consequences. He argued that such an omission hinders even development and peace, crucial for the country's progress.

The former Anambra State Governor emphasized that the North Central region urgently requires special attention due to the severe challenges it faces. He highlighted the relentless terror attacks and banditry in Plateau, Benue, Kogi, and Niger States, which have caused immense suffering, resulting in significant loss of life and displacing countless families into internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. Obi condemned the exclusion of the North Central Regional Commission from the budgetary allocations provided to other regional commissions in the 2025 proposed budget, a total of N2.493 trillion allocated to five regional development commissions, with the North Central conspicuously omitted. Recognizing the region's vital role as the agricultural backbone of the nation, Obi called for robust support to enhance security, stability, and development for the benefit of the entire country. He urged the government and National Assembly to urgently review and rectify this decision, which will negatively impact the region most in need of development. Obi concluded his message with a call for a more inclusive and equitable Nigeria, stating that a New Nigeria is not merely a dream
