The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi has described the controversial Tax Reform Bills proposed to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu as a critical issue.He, however stated that such reform must be subjected to a robust and informed public debate.

He also stated that such hearing will also build trust between citizens and those in power by ensuring inclusivity in policymaking. In addition, the former governor of Anambra State said that when considering tax reforms and similar issues, it is insufficient to focus solely on the benefits to the government, particularly in terms of increasing revenue collection.

“Furthermore, the government must sensitize the people and secure their buy-in for any policy changes.
