Ahead of the grand finale of this year’s edition Osun-Osogbo cultural festival coming up on Friday, the Osun State Government has pleaded with foreign tourists and adherents from outside the state not to attend the event physically in order to prevent spread of COVID-19.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the Osun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Adebisi Obawale, said the government would ensure live online transmission of all activities during the festival. Obawale said Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun had been informed of government’s decision to control the crowd in adherence to COVID-19 protocols during the festival..
He said, “As a pragmatic effort to control crowd and giving opportunities to the rest of the World to partake in the proceedings of grand-finale of the 2021 edition of this festival, the gGovernment of Osun, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has collaborated with Active Projectile Limited, Lagos, Nigeria, to ensure the live transmission of the festival, by setting up virtual platform, and making virtual and live performance by reputable artistes as part of the activities.
“We have told Ataoja the government’s position on this. We can’t stop those adherents residents in the state from coming. But foreign tourists, adherents and groups coming from outside Osun should follow the festival through our online platforms. This is to prevent spread of COVID-19.”All rights reserved.
