OLUFEMI OLANIYI examines how bad roads and insecurity are making life difficult for the people of the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State

Huge quantities of farm produce rot away on many farms because of the difficulty in transporting them to markets in the urban areas and this is part of the frustration sabotaging government as well as individuals’ efforts to make the country self-sufficient in food production. They said all the roads linking the zone were generally in a deplorable condition and especially called on Buhari and Makinde to urgently rehabilitate the Iseyin/Oyo Road; Moniya/Iseyin Road; Igbeti/Ilorin Road and Okeho/Igannna Road, among others.

Oyewale stated, “The roads in our area are bad. Our leaders and we the followers have made so much noise about the situation, but little is being done now. We even thank God that Governor Seyi Makinde has seen our plight and the state government has started doing something about the Ibadan/Iseyin Road.

A branch of First Bank in Okeho, the headquarters of the Kajola Local Government Area of the state, was last week attacked by armed robbers, who blew the security door to the bank with dynamites. Apart from robbery and kidnapping, there have been many cases of herdsmen deliberately destroying farms by grazing their livestock on farms or setting on fire farmlands and harvests so that grasses can spring early for their livestock to feed on.

The monarch added that the fact that the area was calm now was not indicative that there was no major problem apart from the occasional destruction of farms by herdsmen. The Chairman, Oyo State Security Network and a former Director, Directorate of Military Intelligence, Col. Kunle Togun , said kidnapping had continued unabated, especially in the Oke Ogun area.

“Kidnapping is still taking place even in Saki and other places so, it is not true to say there is no more kidnapping in the area.
