Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have recovered 20 bags of fuel reportedly abandoned at Akute-Odo/Aruwajoye Area, a boundary between Lagos and Ogun states, by suspected vandals.
The fuel, which had been evacuated to the NSCDC headquarters in Ikeja, was believed to have been scooped from vandalised pipelines. The recovery was said to have been made on Friday by the command’s operatives attached to ‘Right of Way’ and Anti-Vandal Unit to ensure the protection of the nation’s oil pipelines.
The Public Relations Officer, NSCDC Lagos State Command, Olumide Abolurin, said in a statement on Saturday that the suspects fled on sighting the team. He said the operation was part of the renewed efforts by the state NSCDC Commandant, Eweka Okoro, towards ensuring a zero tolerance against oil pipeline vandalism and other forms of criminalities.
