Speaking at the opening ceremony of the just concluded workshop on Data and Investigative Journalism training for maritime journalists, Usman said that the agency will vigorously enforce standards for greater efficiency and service delivery and called for the support of all stakeholders in this regard.
She stated that besides the issue of reduced operational cost, the agency now has better management control and increased customer satisfaction. Usman explained that developing nations of the world are presently faced with the challenge of industrial growth and development which can be accessed through the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, of a country adding that Nigeria is not an exception as the agency is doing what it can to ensure that the Nigerian ports can stand among comity of maritime nations.
She commended the media for the support the agency has enjoyed since assumption of duty adding that its continued support will ensure that the sector competes favourably with other maritime nations within the sub-region. She said “As we move to reposition the sector through our operational diligence by the help of Ease of Doing Business, I call for your increased partnership to navigate through the troubled waters towards maximising the benefits of the sector. As a major player, we assure you that we shall explore optimally in the area of revenue generation and job creation to the benefit of the Nigerian populace”.
