Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a lawsuit against former President Muhammadu Buhari's media aide, Bashir Ahmad, for libel and damages.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB ), Nnamdi Kanu , has initiated legal action against Bashir Ahmad , a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari , in the Enugu State High Court . Kanu alleges that Ahmad's recent social media comment is both libelous and damaging. Ahmad had stated on X (formerly Twitter) that anyone advocating for Kanu's release should be considered an enemy of Nigeria.

He wrote, 'Anybody advocating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, a terrorist and the leader of the proscribed terrorist organization IPOB, should be considered a sworn enemy of this country.'Kanu, through his lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, is demanding N100 billion in damages from Ahmad and a public apology within 42 days. A originating summons obtained by DAILY POST outlines Kanu's demands, stating, 'You are hereby commanded within Forty-two (42) Days after the service of this writ on you inclusive of the day of such services you do cause an appearance to be entered for you in an action at the suit of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. 'AND TAKE NOTICE that in default of your so doing the Plaintiff may proceed in your absence, and judgment may be given.'Among the reliefs sought by Kanu are a declaration that Ahmad's statements are libelous and defamatory, an order for Ahmad to retract his statements through the same media platforms, a formal letter of apology to be published in three national dailies (SUN, Daily Trust, and Guardian), and a perpetual injunction preventing Ahmad from making further defamatory remarks about Kanu. In addition to these, Kanu is seeking N100 billion in damages and the reimbursement of legal costs
