Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Bridge Academy, Lagos, Mrs Suzie Ogiugo, in this interview with GRACE EDEMA, speaks about the need for the Nigerian education system to pay attention to application of knowledge rather than just passing examinationsTo be honest with you, there is no child that is not gifted. Every child is endowed and gifted in their own special way. We just have to be able to identify their area of strength, areas where they are gifted and encourage them to explore those areas.
The Canadian education system is a system that has been programmed to help the students maximise their full potential. In other words, they are able to apply their thinking and analytical capabilities. The Canadian education system helps students to think critically; it is more of hands-on approach and applying the skills learnt in the classroom to the real life situations. That is the major difference.
The world is becoming a global village now, with the advent of social media and Internet, our students are competing with the rest of the world. So, we have to be able to step up in our educational system so that our children are not left behind. We have to ensure that our students are able to apply the knowledge from class to real-life situations.
