A deputy commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has been arrested for allegedly participating in a scheme to divert over N3 billion of public funds through fictitious accounts. The scheme, uncovered by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), allegedly involved a retired Chief of Naval Staff and a former Brigadier General.

A deputy commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kogi State, Adam Yusuf, has been arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ( ICPC ). Yusuf was apprehended at his residence in the Gwagwalada Area of the Federal Capital Territory over allegations of corruption.

In a statement released on Friday, the ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, revealed that Yusuf had been evading authorities due to a sophisticated scheme allegedly orchestrated by a retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, in collaboration with former Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum. Bakare stated that the scheme involved the diversion of over N3 billion of public funds through fictitious accounts. He emphasized that none of the accounts used in the suspected criminal activity were registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Bakare explained that further investigations enabled authorities to trace the laundered funds to companies such as Lahab Integrated and Gate Coast Properties, among others. He alleged that the illicit proceeds were used to acquire over 18 properties, including multiple filling stations. Bakare added that four of these properties have already been forfeited to the government, while legal proceedings are underway regarding the remaining assets. He further stated that the commission remains resolute in its commitment to intensify efforts to apprehend other suspects who are still at large
