Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for the Nigerian President, criticizes Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK Conservative Party, for her repeated negative statements about Nigeria. He accuses her of using anti-Nigeria rhetoric to gain support within her party and compares her approach unfavorably to her predecessor, Rishi Sunak.
Nigerian President's spokesperson has criticized Kemi Badenoch , the leader of the United Kingdom's Conservative Party, for her repeated negative remarks about Nigeria. Badenoch, in her first address of the year, characterized Nigeria as a poverty-stricken country that diminishes the lives of its citizens. Drawing on her personal experiences growing up in Nigeria, Badenoch claimed her family endured financial hardship simply by living there.
Responding to Badenoch's comments, Daniel Bwala, the President's spokesperson on information and strategy, stated that her persistent derogatory language towards Nigeria would have no impact on the nation. During an appearance on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, Bwala asserted that Badenoch's primary motivation was to garner support within her party by exploiting negative perceptions of Nigeria. He argued that her rhetoric aimed to denigrate and undermine Nigeria's image, potentially boosting her popularity among those who share her party's right-wing ideology. Bwala further contrasted Badenoch's approach with that of her predecessor, Rishi Sunak, who, despite his Indian heritage, never used negative stereotypes or issues associated with India to advance his political agenda. Bwala emphasized that while Sunak refrained from exploiting such sensitive topics, Badenoch consistently targeted Nigeria with criticism, deeming her approach counterproductive
