The Nigerian Government has decided to stop budgetary funding of all professional bodies and councils nationwide. The implementation will take effect from December 31, 2026. This was disclosed in a circular released by the Director General of the Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, dated June 26, 2023 and addressed to the Nigerian Council of Food Science & Technology Fed. Min. of Science, Technology & Innovation, claiming that the Presidency had resolved to stop making budgetary provisions.

The implementation will take effect from December 31, 2026.

The statement reads: “I wish to inform you that the Presidential Committee on Salaries at its 13th meeting approved the discontinuation of budgetary allocation to Professional Bodies/Councils effective 2026. “For the avoidance of doubt, you will be required, effective 31st December 2026, to be fully responsible for your personnel, overhead and capital expenditures.”
