A Nigerian economist, Paul Alaje, has said that just five competent ministers are enough to run the affairs of the country.

According to him, most ministerial appointments are political motivated and not based on the competence of the individuals.

The economist also faulted the trend of appointing at least one minister from each state of the federation. “What matters is competence. In Nigeria, ministerial appointments are often issued as rewards for people to perform purely administrative roles, irrespective of their competence,” he said.reports that President Bola Tinubu inaugurated 45 ministers into various positions in August this year.

The President also forwarded names of three additional ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation this week. The three nominees have been confirmed by the Senate and are awaiting their inauguration by the president.
