Niger State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Umar Bago, has ordered the immediate demolition of a petrol station located within a residential area in Minna, the state capital.Bago’s action, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, followed the refusal of the owner of the station to obey the “stop work order” issued by the governor during a visit to the site early in the week.
The statement posited that the location of the station poses danger to the people of the area hence, the decision of the governor to demolish the structure. According to the statement, “The structure is illegal and its location is not safe for the people of the area”, adding that the governor had earlier asked the owners to stop work.
“We have a report of the illegal structure, and I have asked the Urban Development Board to stop them from working, but they continued, so we revoked the C of O from today and we have marked it for demolition. “It’s uncalled for to have such a project in the midst of people, it is dangerous to their lives, and it’s not acceptable.”
