The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), a pro-human rights group, has petitioned the international community through their various embassies to impose strict sanctions and visa bans on the governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, and Ishaya Tanko, the returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state during the last election. CLO has
revealed that the petition was in response to their alleged roles in the March 18th governorship election. Igho Akeregha, the President of the CLO, made the revelation during a media briefing held in Abuja. Akerebha explained that their petition aims to address what they view as undemocratic behavior, targeting elements that are undermining Nigeria's democracy with impunity.
The rights group, therefore, issued a stern warning to the governor, advising him to refrain from such actions. Recall that on October 2nd, the tribunal led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi nullified the Nasarawa State March 18th governorship election result declared by INEC's returning officer, Ishaya Tanko, who declared Sule as winner due to discrepancies in the number of votes counted and accredited voters.
