It is actually the muscles of the womb where the masses originate from, just like we have tumours from any other part of the body. Those tumours may be benign or malignant.
Another point to raise here, which is neither here nor there, is infertility. Fibroids as a cause of infertility has not been well-established, because a lot of women who have very big fibroids may go on to conceive and deliver. However, we have also seen that there are some groups of women that until you take the fibroid out, they would not conceive.
