A physician, Omoteemi Olakunle has stated that the popular belief which existed that the consumption of calabash chalk, popularly known as ‘Nzu’ prevented nausea and vomitting in pregnancy is false.
The medical expert explained that because of its excess lead, nzu intake also leads to muscle weakness, nerve damage, inflamed stomach, poisoning and blood shortage. In his words, “There is no good scientific evidence that nzu or calabash clay relieves nausea, vomiting, or stomach problems.
