A picture obtained by AFP outside Iran, shows people gathering next to a burning motorcycle in the capital Tehran on October 8, 2022. – Iran has been torn by the biggest wave of social unrest in almost three years, which has seen protesters, including university students and even young schoolgirls chant “Woman, Life, Freedom”.
Iran has been rocked by protests dubbed “riots” by the authorities since Amini, 22, died in custody on September 16 following her arrest for an alleged breach of the country’s strict dress code for women. IRNA said protesters had gathered late Saturday in the city, about 470 kilometres south of the capital Tehran in the central Isfahan province.
“Security forces were deployed to establish order in the city and, in some cases, clashes occurred with several rioters,” the report said.
