The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps has seized alcoholic drinks worth about N2m during a recent raid on parks and garages in the state.

The agency, in a statement on Monday, said the clampdown was in line with the state’s efforts to rid garages, parks and roadsides of liquor sales and consumption by motorists.

The statement quoted the Corps Marshal, LAGSEC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu , as saying that the raid would be a continous exercise. According to him, the Lagos State Government is concerned about “the alarming rate of liquor drinks sale in garages, motor parks, roadsides and in traffic.”“The negative trend poses grave danger to the psychological, mental and general well-being of drivers, motorists and pedestrians alike,” Akinpelu said.

The agency said confiscated liquor would be handed over to appropriate authorities for destruction, stressing that LAGSEC was determined to stem the tide of the illegal sale of alcohol across the state’s motor parks. “Akinpelu also read the Riot Act to street traders to desist from displaying liquor for sale in garages, motor parks, roadsides and in traffic, warning that the agency will not relent in its drive to rid the state of all environmental nuisances,” the statement further stated. All rights reserved.
