Lagos community decries menace of tank farms vanguardngr.com vanguardnews

RESIDENTS of Ijegun Egba and Satellite communities have called on the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, who are responsible for issuing licences to tank farm owners to end further issuance of licences due to insecurity and danger it is exposed to by Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, who are in the habit of causing road blocks.

Chairman, Satellite Town Forum, Mr. Govenor Imitini, said that the community which lacks drainage is now being submerged by water. It has also led to the electrocution and death of a child about two years ago in the said community. “What we are suffering has to do with emergence of tank farms in our community. Since they came on board, we have had it very rough, we made efforts to reach various government agencies, and we did not get any good response. There are 12 tank farms in operation now, and they have made life miserable for people living in Ijegun Egba and its environs. There is another project coming up, it is called Container Terminal at Zone2. Ijegun Egba is a residential area, it is not industrial.

We don’t want to make life difficult for anybody because we are doing business; we want everybody to live in peace so that our business can thrive.
