Yusuf had said that the demolition exercise was part of the fulfillment of his campaign promise to “restore” the urban development masterplan of the state capital. According to the statement issued by his spokesperson, Hisham Habib, Governor Yusuf emphasised the importance of reclaiming public properties that were illegally acquired by individuals and cronies of the previous administration.
