The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescinded the decision on the Yobe South supplementary election billed this Saturday in Yobe State
and declared Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomoi as the winner of the election, which was earlier declared inconclusive.
INEC had on the February 27, 2023 declared the Yobe South senatorial district’s election as inconclusive over the cancellation of a polling unit at Manawaci in Fika local government area of the district, necessitated by over-voting that exceeded the margin between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress , who scored 69,417 votes and that of the Peoples Democratic Party , who scored 68,800 votes.
The returning officer of the senatorial district, Dr Abatcha Melemi of the Federal University, Gashu’a while declaring the results in Potiskum, said Bomoi emerged winner after scoring 69,596 votes to defeat his closest contender of the PDP Abubakar Halilu who scored 68,885. “My mandate in this exercise is just to declare the results and return the elected candidate for Yobe South Senatorial dictrict.
